The project has an international character and is based on a collaborative partnership between artists from Poland and Burkina Faso. The result is a unique musical language in which modern technology meets primal rhythm and traditional melodies, creating a distinctive artistic expression. The project goes beyond the conventions of world music. Here, intercultural exchange is not merely a formal encounter between cultures, but a genuine artistic experience and a creative process. It creates a space for authentic intercultural dialogue, where tradition and innovation become equal creative forces, inspiring and enriching one another.

about the artist

Noums Dembele, best known for playing the kora – a traditional West African harp closely associated with the Mandinka musical heritage – has developed a wide-ranging musical career through collaborations across diverse genres. He performs with several African music ensembles, including Faso Tamala and Moribaya, while also working with artists from the experimental rock scene, most notably Hizbut Jamm, led by Polish guitarist and composer Raphael Rogiński. His musical journey began at the age of three, when he first picked up the ngoni, a traditional West African string instrument.

Since 2022, the group ||ALA|MEDA|| has been developing Spectra, an original artistic project that reinterprets both traditional and contemporary rhythmic traditions of Africa and South America. The project has given rise to a new artistic direction that is „spectral” in multiple senses: it creates a continuum of diverse musical references, bringing together genres as varied as gqom, free jazz, UK bass, krautrock, IDM, post-industrial, and batida into a dynamic and ever-evolving whole. The guiding idea behind ||ALA|MEDA||’s recent work – including its collaborations with artists from other continents – is the complete integration of electronic music with live performance, while dissolving the boundaries between high and popular art, refined and raw expression, avant-garde and entertainment, music „for the soul” and music „for the body.” Rather than a postmodern feast for weary minds or a nostalgic longing for a lost unity with nature, this music embodies a new realism for an ever-changing world.
