“Pieces of a Woman” at the International Theatre Festival in Brno

24.05. 2022

During this year’s International Theatre Festival in Brno, TR Warszawa will present “Pieces of a Woman” directed by Kornél Mundruczó. This is yet another trip of a TR Warszawa production to the Czech Republic!

International Theatre Festival in Brno

During this year’s Theatre World Festival Brno TR Warszawa will present “Pieces of a Woman” directed by Kornél Mundruczó. The play will be performed twice, on 27th and 28th May at 19:00 in the Janáček Theatre. The festival was established in 2010 as a result of cooperation between local theatres: Brno National Theatre, Goose on a String Theatre, HaDivadlo, Brno City Theatre, Polárka Theatre, Marta Studio and Radost Theatre. In addition to these theatres, the Theatre Department of the Janáček Academy of Music and Performing Arts in Brno and its music-drama laboratory at the Theatre on Orla Street are also involved in preparations for the festival. In the first years after the festival was established, the main organiser was TIC – Brno Tourist Information Centre, but since 2015 this role has been held by the National Theatre in Brno.

The festival takes place in Brno, a Czech city located not far from such European capitals as Prague, Bratislava, Vienna and Warsaw. Thus, it brings together international audiences and creates a meeting space for theatre makers from all over Europe. Every year, the festival audience can admire not only over 50 different performances, but also performative events, dance and music shows. After extremely positive reviews in previous years, the organisers decided to prepare also a programme for young people and families with children. This idea resulted in repeated cooperation with the DRAK Theatre, the Little Theatre in České Budějovice and the Naive Theatre in Liberec.

TR Warsaw in the Czech Republic

It is not the first time that a TR Warszawa production will be presented to Czech audiences during an international festival. Last September at the Divadlo Festival in Pilsen we played “3 Sisters” directed by Luka Perceval. In 2019, during the Prague Crossroads Festival, we played “Fantasia”, directed by Anna Karasińska. In the same year, we also presented “Other People”, directed by Grzegorz Jarzyna, at the International Festival Theatre in Pilsen. Two years earlier, in 2017, during the same festival, we performed “Holzwege” directed by Katarzyna Kalwat, and in 2015 “The Bat” directed by Kornél Mundruczó. We are looking forward to another meeting with international audiences in the country of our neighbours.
