Biography
Actor at TR Warszawa. A graduate of the Leon Schiller National Film, Television and Theatre School in Łódź. While still a student, he appeared in Kordian directed by Tadeusz Minc (1969) at the New Theatre in Poznań.
Immediately after graduation, he made his professional debut at the Polish Theatre in Poznań as Janek in The Supposed Miracle, or Cracovians and Highlanders directed by Andrzej Ziębiński on January 14, 1971. Over the course of his career, he has created nearly 200 roles in productions for dramatic theatres, Polish Radio Theatre, and Television Theatre.
Between 1970 and 1973, he was a member of the ensemble of the Polish Theatre in Poznań, where he appeared in productions including Everything in the Garden directed by Stanisław Brejdygant (1971) and The Servant of Two Masters directed by Krystyna Meissner (1972).
From 1973 to 1988, he was a full-time actor at the New Theatre in Poznań, where he performed in productions such as Giants of the Mountain (1973), Turoń (1977) directed by Izabella Cywińska, The Threepenny Opera directed by Raul Zermeno (1974), The Story of Wacław directed by Adam Hanuszkiewicz (1974), and The Red Rooster Flies Straight to Heaven directed by Janusz Nyczak (1978).
In 1988, he moved to the Stanisław Ignacy Witkiewicz Studio Theatre in Warsaw, where he worked until 1991. He appeared in Janusz Wiśniewski’s original productions, including Panopticum à la Madame Tussaud (1982), The End of Europe (1983), A Sick Man’s Prayer Before Night (1987), Illumination (1989), and Life Is a Miracle (1992). In 1991, he also made a guest appearance in The Marriage directed by Wojciech Szulczyński.
Since 1992, he has collaborated with the Szwedzka 2/4 ensemble, creating productions such as Woyzeck (1993) and To Damascus directed by Marcin Jarnuszkiewicz (1994).
He has been associated with TR Warszawa continuously since 1995. His first productions at the theatre on Marszałkowska Street were The Madness of Butterfly Hunting directed by Wojciech Maryański (1995) and Peepshow directed by Henryk Baranowski (1995).
In the following years at TR Warszawa (formerly Teatr Rozmaitości), he created roles in productions including Tropical Craze directed by Grzegorz Horst d’Albertis / Grzegorz Jarzyna (1997), The Dog’s Testament directed by Piotr Cieplak (1997), The Bacchae directed by Krzysztof Warlikowski (2001), The Celebration directed by H7 / Grzegorz Jarzyna (2001), Processing directed by Artur Urbański (2002), The Tempest directed by Krzysztof Warlikowski (2003), Whatever Happens, I Love You directed by Przemysław Wojcieszek (2005), Helena S. directed by Aleksandra Konieczna (2006), Come On, Stop It directed by Jan Klata (2006), Two Poor Romanians Speaking Polish directed by Przemysław Wojcieszek (2006), The Shoemakers at the Gates directed by Jan Klata (2007), Solaris. His artistic achievements also include film roles in productions such as Persona Non Grata directed by Krzysztof Zanussi (2005), Strawberry Wine directed by Dariusz Jabłoński (2007), and Heavy Mental directed by Sebastian Buttny (2013).
In 1976, he received an award at the 1st Review of Actors’ Songs in Wrocław. In 1977, he was awarded for his role as Ksawery in Turoń at the 3rd Opole Theatre Confrontations. In 2006, he received a distinction for his performance in Fotoplastikon directed by Krzysztof Bizio at the 6th “Two Theatres” Festival of Polish Radio Theatre and Television Theatre.
On January 14, 2021, he was awarded the Silver Medal for Merit to Culture – Gloria Artis by Piotr Gliński, Minister of Culture, National Heritage and Sport.
