About the performance
Farewells are difficult, but we have to set sail. Leave our room, our parents, our school behind. But where do we go? There is no wind, no direction. All that remains of home is a roof we drift upon, a few photographs, memories, emotions — the things that are good, we take with us.
We drift. Someone sings. Someone makes sure we don’t drift away from one another. Someone knows how to make the others laugh when no one has the strength left. Someone tries to manage this whole drifting.
What will the world we reach be like? Does such a world even exist yet? How do we find the strength to set a course? Our only hope is that we are in this together.
Growing up is an endless series of farewells: to childhood, to home, to the way we imagine ourselves and our own future. In today’s world, it also means saying goodbye to a sense of stability and security, and to the belief in a better future.
DRYF is a performance created by students of the Stanisław Noakowski Technical School of Architecture and Construction in Warsaw as part of the “TISZ TR 2024–2026” project.
DRYF is the voice of those who have not yet arrived anywhere, but have already drifted away from everything they knew. It is a story about grief, sensitivity and hope; about the fear of the future and about searching for the strength to step into it anyway.
About the project TISZ TR
DRYF is a performance bringing together three years of the TISZ TR 2024–2026 programme, an educational and theatre initiative that connects school students with professional artists, introducing them to the world of theatre through hands-on practice. During this edition, we worked with students from the Stanisław Noakowski Technical School of Architecture and Construction in Warsaw. Our aim was not only to provide theatre education, but also to foster creativity, critical thinking, teamwork, and resilience — the ability to adapt to a changing reality.
This is another chapter in the programme’s history. In previous years, as part of TISZ TR, young people from Warsaw schools created, among other things, several performative projects, including the performance Ale bym Cię wystawiła w ATM-ie (2017), developed under the pedagogical guidance of Sebastian Świąder, Tomasz Daszczuk, and Maria Babicka, the performance Topnienie (2019), directed by Anna Karasińska, a video art exhibition mentored by Wojtek Ziemilski (2020), and the performance Autokorekta (2021), directed by Jakub Skrzywanek.

An intriguing premise. What if a lost group of teenagers were to survive the biblical flood? And what if the rooftop where they found shelter drifted across an ocean of life, thoughts and doubts weighing on young people only just entering adulthood? Well, what would you say? Perhaps the most difficult stage of growing up. A reluctance to express emotions or put expectations into words. Keeping doubts and fears hidden inside. And, on top of that, the frequent inability to accept one’s own changing image — the transformation from a child’s body into an adult one. They came onto the stage. They performed. Brilliantly, intelligently, and with remarkable bravado.
The outstanding set design by Julia Skrzynecka emerges from the stage smoke, resembling the fog concealing a city submerged by the flood. It looks striking from the very first moments. Minkowska is given a realistic, post-catastrophic environment to fill with actors. They appear gradually, lighting their way with the focused beams of flashlights. And they begin as every sensitive, honest person should in the face of catastrophe: they simply help one another. They search for each other and, by supporting one another, pull themselves out of danger. It is a deeply moving scene to watch. Here is a generation supposedly without ideals. Supposedly self-absorbed and helpless in the face of hardship. Seven teenagers saving one another and helping each other in order to survive. They fill the rooftop.
